AUTOMOTORS CAF SÈRIE 61 SFM A MARRATXI (MALLORCA)

A couple of years ago the SFM did run a 30 minutes services between Palma and Inca with diesel powered trains. Nowadays the trains in Palma leave from a huge underground station which is also the starting point for the SFM Metro to Palma University and a busstation for suburban buses. From Inca the route is extended via old tracks to Manacor and Sa Pobla. The route to Manacor is planned to be extended to Arta. Work is on its way, the (low-floor!) trains are already delivered, there is a big maintenance facility in Arta, but there is no money to finish the work. The train system is a big loss maker. To save some money the services were reduced drastically during the summer holidays in 2013. The Metro in Palma did run only every 90 minutes. Apparently this route is useless for every one but students. For the low floor trains some modifications were made to some stations (with high platforms) between Inca and Palma. They are now used in rush hours as express trains.
