She took part in the audition for Kanji Keyaki, but when it reached the final audition, she wasn’t around. Her Mother had brought her back to Nagasaki. After Sony's management contacted Neru's parents to asked them to give her a chance, they managed to convince them and let her join Keyakizaka46. But as Kanji Keyaki has already been formed, Neru had no choice but to join in as "Gen 1.5", or Hiragana Keyaki (Thank you to Ryse Gordon for pointing this out). It was also announced on 30 November 2015 that auditions for the remaining Hiragana Keyaki members will be held. On 8th May 2016, 11 members were officially announced and added to Hiragana Keyaki, bringing the total number to 12. During this period of time, Nagahama Neru was handling activities on both sides of the group, Kanji and Hiragana Keyaki. 31st May 2017: Audition for more Hiragana Keyaki members were announced. 15 August 2017: 9 members were added to Hiragana Keyaki. They are officially known as Hiragana Keyaki 2nd gen. Activities for them did not start immediately, except for Watanabe Miho who started work with Gana First gen on Re:Mind, 3 weeks after been added to Hiragana Keyaki. 25 September 2017: Nagahama Neru was officially moved to Kanji Keyaki, leaving Hiragana Keyaki with 20 members. This was a sudden move that most members do not even know. Or so it seems to be. [Difference between Kanji and Hiragana Keyaki] As most of us could already tell, Kanji Keyaki features a cool aspect. Yes, occasionally you get cute songs such as Bathroom Traveller, but it is not common. Their cool aspect is something I personally like that is uncommon in the idol world in Japan. It also seems that Kpop lovers like Keyakizaka46's cool aspect (Please say yes or no if you're from Kpop). On the flip side, Hiragana Keyaki has this Happy Aura that they wish to bring to their fans. Songs like Dare yori Takaku Tobe bring about that. When members were asked what's the difference between them and Kanji, members were explaining that they are the happier and brighter side of Keyakizaka46. That is not to say that Kanji Keyaki are not happy or what but as mentioned, Kanji Keyaki is the cool aspect of Keyakizaka46, one of the reason that they are so different from other idols in Japan, which makes them popular. I hope this should explain differences between Kanji and Hiragana Keyaki. Most of the things explained here are based on what I've read on magazines, seen on TV and understood from Japanese fans. They are good information that explains more into the group.
